Numerous Awards and Travel Grants are funded through the generous grants received from various senior members of the IEEE and WAMS.

1. Dr. Sudhakar Rao Award for Best Paper of WAMS 2025

Criteria: Selection shall be based on originality and potential application to an engineering product that is related to any of the three tracks of the symposium. The award shall be given to students or young professionals of age 40 years or below and the awardee shall be the first author of the accepted paper for oral presentation. The paper must be presented during the symposium to qualify for the award.

Award: The awardee, first author of the selected paper, will receive a cash prize of INR 30000, a plaque, a certificate and all the registered co-authors shall receive plaques and a certificates.

Prof. Chow-Yen-Desmond Sim, a distinguished IEEE Fellow, is a leading expert in antenna design for advanced wireless technologies, with over 200 SCI publications and significant contributions to 5G/6G, WiFi-7, and RFID applications. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for multiple prestigious journals, including the IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, and was a long-time editor for IEEE ACCESS and IEEE AWPL. At Feng Chia University, Taiwan, he has held various leadership roles, including Director of the Intelligent IoT Industrial Ph.D. Program and Head of the Electrical Engineering Department. He is a Life Fellow of WAMS Society and has actively supported the Wireless, Antenna, and Microwave Symposium (WAMS) in India, delivering keynote talks at WAMS 2022, 2023, and 2024. Recognized for his editorial excellence, Dr. Sim received the IEEE AP Society Outstanding Reviewer Award for eight consecutive years and currently serves as an IEEE AP-S Distinguished Lecturer for 2024–2026.

3. Dr. Desmond Sim Award for Best Paper in Antenna Design for Mobile Devices ​

Criteria: The awardee shall be either an undergraduate/ post-graduate/research student and be the first author of an orally presented paper related to all tracks of the symposium.

Director General (Aero), DRDO, Bangalore

Dr. K. Rajalakshmi Menon, the Director General (Aero) of DRDO, is a pioneering scientist with expertise in airborne surveillance systems, C4ISR, and system engineering of complex aerospace platforms. She played a pivotal role in the design, integration, and flight testing of India’s indigenous AEW&C system, which was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2017, making India the fifth nation to achieve this capability. With a background in Computer Science, Engineering, and a PhD in Target Recognition from IISc Bangalore, she has led numerous advancements in airborne radar, EW sensors, and imaging radar technologies. As Associate Director of CABS, she spearheaded key ISR initiatives, including air-to-ground surveillance systems for various aerial platforms such as UAVs, satellites, and fighters. Her leadership and technical contributions have significantly strengthened India’s self-reliance in advanced aerospace and defense technologies.

6. Dr. Jonathan Sauder Award for Best Collaborative RF/Mechanical Antenna Design Paper

Criteria: This award will be given to a paper best highlighting collaborative design efforts between RF and Mechanical/Structural/or Manufacturing Engineer . The paper must be presented orally during the conference, and have at least two authors, one of whom is the RF lead and the other is the mechanical lead. The awardees will be the lead RF engineer and the lead mechanical engineer on the paper (only one is required to be present, but both will receive a prize and award).

Award: The awardees shall be the first two authors of the paper and registered participants of the conference, and will receive a cash prize of INR 20000 (shared between two), a plaque, a certificate and all other registered co-authors shall receive a plaque and a certificate.

Dr. K. B. S. Sri Nagini received her Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and
Communication Engineering from Acharya Nagarjuna University and her master’s degree in communications and Signal Processing from VR Siddhartha College of Engineering, Vijayawada. She completed her Ph.D. in RF and Microwave Engineering from VIT-AP University, with a research focus on microwave devices and meta surfaces. Her work specializes in meta surfaces for biosensing and communication, particularly the development of dual-functional biosensors for detecting hemoglobin and cancer cells. Her research also includes 5G antenna design, SIW-based self-multiplexing antennas, and machine learning- based optimization. She received the Best Paper Award at IEEE SPACE 2024. Currently, she is working at VR Siddhartha College of Engineering, Vijayawada.

7. Dr. Zubair Akhter Award for Multi-Disciplinary Collaborative Research Best Paper

The Dr. Zubair Akhter Award seeks to honor individuals who embody the spirit of collaboration across diverse fields of expertise. This prestigious award recognizes those who leverage their unique perspectives to craft innovative solutions for complex societal challenges. By fostering groundbreaking ideas, enhancing resource sharing, and strengthening the interdepartmental research ecosystem, this award aims to inspire future generations of researchers to tackle pressing global issues.

Criteria: Eligible candidates for this esteemed award include undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students who are the first authors of orally presented papers across all symposium tracks. The selected paper shall demonstrate collaborative research efforts involving two or more institutions, showcasing the power of interdisciplinary teamwork in advancing knowledge and innovation.

Award: The recipient of the Dr. Zubair Akhter Award shall be the first author of the outstanding paper and must be registered for the conference. The award package includes a cash prize of INR 20000, a beautifully crafted plaque, and a certificate of recognition. Additionally, all registered co-authors will receive a plaque and a certificate, celebrating their contributions to this collaborative endeavor. Dr. M.D. Selvaraj, Professor of ECE at IIITDM Kancheepuram, holds a Ph.D. from IIT Delhi and B.Tech/M.Tech degrees from Pondicherry Engineering College. He currently serves as Dean (Design, Innovation, Incubation) and has previously held roles such as Dean (SRICCE) and Head of ECE. A Senior Member of IEEE, he is the Editor of the IETE Journal of Research and has served as Associate Editor for Elsevier’s Computer and Electrical Engineering. With over one crore in funded projects from DST and other agencies, he is also a DST project evaluator and active member of faculty selection panels. Prof V. V. S. S. Sameer Chakravarthy has 20 years of teaching experience. He is a Life senior member of WAMS-Society, a senior member of IEEE, and a member of the AP-S Educational Subcommittee. He currently serves as Treasurer of WAMS-Society and has been associated with it since its first version in 2022. He also holds an amateur radio license.

Dr. Somak Bhattacharyya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering at IIT (BHU), Varanasi, with research interests in microwave engineering, metasurfaces, terahertz devices, and radio astronomy techniques. He earned his B.Tech and M.Tech from the University of Calcutta and completed his Ph.D. at IIT Kanpur in 2015. He is a three-time recipient of the URSI Young Scientist Award and holds lifetime membership with URSI. In 2022, he received the IETE-Smt. Manorama Rathore Memorial Award and was elected Fellow of ATMS India. Recently, he was honored with the IEEE MTT-S Outstanding Volunteer Award (2024), the Young Achiever Award by IIT Kanpur, and was selected as a Senior Individual Member of INAE.

Atli Lemma Gebretsadik graduated with BSc and MSc in electrical engineering with
communication systems specialization from the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. Then, he was visiting research scholar for three months and research fellow for one and a half years at the University of Pavia, Italy, and Jacob University Bremen, Germany; respectively. Subsequently, he was lecturer at the Bahir Dar University, Addis Ababa University, and Haramaya University, Ethiopia for a total of twelve years. Chandhini J, a final-year M.Tech student in Biomedical Engineering at VIT Vellore, currently pursuing her research project at IIITDM Kancheepuram. She holds a B.Tech degree in Biotechnology from B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. Her research interests span RF-based sensing, antenna design, and biomedical signal processing, with a particular focus on non-invasive heart rate and respiration monitoring. She is currently working on developing RF-to-ECG signal reconstruction methods for real-time health diagnostics. Chandhini is passionate about interdisciplinary research that integrates electronics and biomedical engineering to drive innovation in non-contact health monitoring systems. She was notably selected for an internship at the Bioinformatics Department at ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai, during her B.Tech, where she gained valuable experience in genomics, computational analysis, and biomedical research.

Ms. Sai Harshini Behara is a graduate of Raghu Institute of Technology with a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. She is currently working as an Associate Software Engineer at Accenture, Kolkata. A Life Member of WAMSS, she has been actively involved with WAMS since 2022, volunteering for SAC activities and AP-S IEEE SIGHT booth initiatives for WAMS 2025. She has authored research papers in the field of Antennas and was recognized with the “IEEE APS/MTT Gujarat Chapter’s Outstanding Award for Female Student” at WAMS 2023. She is also the recipient of the “Dr. Sudhakar Rao’s Award for All-Round Performance (2023–2024)” and the “Outstanding Female Student Volunteer Award” at WAMS 2024. Additionally, she is a licensed HAM radio operator with the call sign VU3XDF.
