Title of Presentation:

Introduction to Aperture Antennas and Their Role in Modern Systems

Abstract:

Aperture antennas play a crucial role in modern communication and sensing systems due to their directional radiation characteristics and relatively high power handling capabilities. This tutorial offers a comprehensive overview of aperture antennas, focusing on their fundamental principles, types, and applications.

The session will explore key categories of aperture antennas, including open-ended waveguides, horn antennas, reflector (dish) antennas, and lens antennas. Participants will gain insights into the design considerations, operational principles, and performance parameters such as aperture efficiency and gain. Special attention will be given to the evolution, configurations, and practical uses of horn and reflector antennas, including applications in satellite communication, radar, radio astronomy, and remote sensing.

This tutorial is intended for students, researchers, and practicing engineers interested in understanding the foundational concepts and real-world relevance of aperture antennas in contemporary and emerging technologies.
